The Cova Tallada is one of the hidden gems of the north of the province of Alicante. Created by the Mediterranean Sea, it is one of the most famous caves in Spain. Located on the cliffs of Cabo de San Antonio, its beauty and natural inspiration make this place a place of pilgrimage for all lovers of snorkelling, hiking or kayaking, as its delicate access makes this place a real surprise for all visitors.

There are currently two ways to do the route to the Cova Tallada, one by hiking to the Cova Tallada and the other by kayaking to the Cova Tallada. The rest of the possibilities, such as going on a boat or jet ski, are currently not allowed, as the prevalence right now is to preserve this natural site and to avoid contamination for the flora and fauna of the Cova Tallada area.

Cova Tallada Denia: Route

The route to Cova Tallada, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, can be done either by hiking or kayaking. If you choose the option of walking to the carved cave, you should know that you must currently reserve your place to access the cave in high season (June-September) through the El Montgó Natural Park. The rest of the year, access to the cave is free.

 

However, if you decide to go kayaking, you should know that you can either go with your own kayak and take an appointment through the Montgó Natural Park or you can do the kayak excursion to the carved cave with qualified instructors specialised in this route, where you will enjoy an excursion of more than 2 hours and a half in kayak, speleology inside the cave and snorkelling.

Is it possible to do the route to the Cova Tallada with children?

Yes, you can do the route to the Cova Tallada with children, however, you must keep in mind that the hiking route to the cave is of medium-high complexity, it is a route of no more than 1.8 kilometres but it is a cliff, Therefore, if you are with children from 4 to 12 years old, we recommend you to do the route by kayak because of its ease. If, on the other hand, you prefer to do the hiking route, you will have to be very careful in special areas of the section.

Tips to follow for the Cova Tallada route

The walking route to the Cova Tallada takes about 45 minutes, provided that you start from the closest point to it, which is at the end of Via Láctea street (Denia), at the end of the road to Les Rotes. There is a parking area where you can leave your car (in high season go early, as parking is limited and you may have to park further away because you can’t leave your car there). It is recommended to do the route to the Cova Tallada:

  • It is advisable to wear suitable footwear for the mountain route.
  • Bring enough water
  • This route is not recommended for people with heart problems or vertigo.
  • On very hot days, remember to always carry plenty of water.
  • It is possible to go with dogs, although it is not advisable. (Must be tethered and muzzled)
