What is the Cova Tallada in Jávea like?
It is a cave created by human beings in the 12th – 14th centuries, as it was used at that time to extract its rough stone and rock to be used in the construction of the most emblematic buildings of Jávea and Dénia, such as the Basilica of San Bartolomé, the church of Jávea, the Castle of Dénia, among others.
At that time, all the stones and rough stones were extracted by hand, loaded onto small boats and transported to the towns of Jávea and Denia.
Today, this allows visitors to the cave to go caving to the end of the cave and see all the history hidden inside this magnificent jewel of the Mediterranean coast.
How to get to the carved cave from Jávea
If you decide to go by car, the option is to take the road from Jávea to Denia (it is along the slopes of Montgó, the mountain that separates the two municipalities. When you get to les Rotes, being already in the municipal district of Dénia, you must go to Via Láctea street. When you arrive, you will see a small area set aside for parking.
If, on the other hand, you decide to walk, I recommend that you arrive by car to the area of the Jávea shooting range or the area of the molins, and then take the route that goes to the Torre del Gerro, a small watchtower at the foot of Montgó. When you reach the Torre del Gerro, take the slope that leads down to the start of the route to the Cova Tallada.
